It aims to help empower children to recognise, react and report if they feel something is not right.
This week, members of the Australian Federal Police (AFP) National Missing Persons Coordination Centre will be driving the Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s ‘Big Red’ promotional truck from Canberra to the NSW South Coast.
The aim of the bus is to educate children and adults on keeping safe through child safety and protection initiatives.
The bus will be visiting the Sapphire Coast Anglican College this Wednesday and Tathra Public School on Thursday.
“It is very special to Denise and Bruce [Morcombe] that Big Red will be coming to this area, as they holidayed in Merimbula and Pambula when Daniel was a toddler,” local representative Melissa Pouliot said.
“And Denise used to holiday here with her parents when she was growing up.”
Mr Morcombe said this initiative was an important opportunity for parents and students within the NSW South Coast region.
“This commitment by the AFP in partnership with the Daniel Morcombe Foundation is a wonderful opportunity for parents, children and young people to learn about keeping safe both in the real world and an online environment,” he said.
AFP Deputy Commissioner Operations Leanne Close said through this great initiative, Big Red will be stopping at primary schools from Canberra to Pambula.
“We are proud to be bringing these presentations to the ACT and the South Coast region, to make sure all children are aware of how to Recognise, React and Report when faced with something that makes them feel unsafe,” Deputy Commissioner Close said.
“The Daniel Morcombe Foundation has been educating school children since 2005, in the hope that other families will never have to go through the experience of losing a child the way they did.”
Wear Red and Educate is the theme of for the day and everyone is encouraged to wear red this Friday.
