In a first for Spiral Gallery, the new exhibition Untitled focuses on drawing.
This focus is a great way to showcases a fantastic variety of techniques, materials, and art making processes and highlights the skills and imagination of many talented artists – both established and emerging - who are working in the region today.
The artists include Sam and Magella Bailey, Anna Buck, Craig Cameron, Sue Chancellor, Alice Lafferty, Tim Moorhead, Jock Morse, Veronica O’leary, Tanja Riese and Tony Sweeting among plenty of others.
For some of the established artists on show, this will be the first time that their drawings will be displayed in their own right.
Several of the artists exhibiting are better known for their paintings, ceramics or sculpture.
Because their drawings are normally made as part of the development process for other kinds of art, they are rarely exhibited as finished works.
The exhibiting artists have created works that explore what lies beyond the boundary of the known; the realm of the not-yet-seen, where ideas can become visible, and ordinary objects can be endowed with new kinds of meaning.
As well as showing us points of view we haven’t seen or thought of before, the exhibition will showcase a broad range of techniques, media and supports and in some cases, will surprise us with the way they stretch our ideas of what drawing is.
The show runs to October 22 at Spiral Gallery, 47 Church St, Bega.
