Compiled by tour and attractions provider Experience Oz, the Ultimate Bucket List highlights the state's best experiences.

Admiring the beach and history at Tathra slipped in to number 89 on the list. 

Further south, visiting the Eden Killer Whale Museum came in at number 81 while the whales, wildlife and waterfront at Merimbula marina made it to number 94.

Allen Collins, president of the Pig and Whistle Fleet Club, said it was absolutely fantastic for Tathra to be placed on the bucket list.

"But there's no reason why we shouldn't be named, as we are a very clean and natural area," he said. 

"If you come to Tathra, you will not be disappointed." 

Mr Collins said in addition to the historic and iconic Tathra Wharf - the only remaining wooden wharf on the east coast of NSW - attractions in the town included cycling and walking tracks, good accommodation and delicious food. 

He thought tourists would be interested in the farming history of the Bega Valley and how the Tathra Wharf had been "the life blood of the area" since it was built in the late 1880s to service the region's growing farming industry. 

The Experience Oz website states Tathra was listed due to its being one of NSW's "true hidden seaside gems” and also “a nature lover's delight that's totally devoid of crowds”. 

"The locals might object, but this beach and its surrounds shouldn’t remain a secret for long," the website said.

Compiled from several years' worth of customer feedback, staff input and database polling, the bucket list covers both experiences in larger urban centres as well as numerous hidden gems in regional NSW.

The list serves as a checklist for potential visitors to the state. 

Experience Oz digital manager Mat Hobbs said the bucket list was a great opportunity to highlight some of the lesser-known wonders of NSW for the local, regional and domestic tourism market to experience and he hoped it would inspire people to explore.
