I'm sure numerous eminently qualified people have made that assertion (Observation? Justification?) throughout history.
Those who know me won't be surprised to discover the one I'm most drawn to is Isaac Asimov.
“It is change, continuing change, inevitable change, that is the dominant factor in society today. No sensible decision can be made any longer without taking into account not only the world as it is, but the world as it will be.”
This week, Fairfax Regional Media titles across the Illawarra and South Coast have been changing to a new look.
However, the change we are undergoing encompasses more than just our look.
It is a fundamental shift in the way we media types approach our daily working life and the way in which we craft a quality product to deliver to readers and business clients.
There has been immeasurable work done behind the scenes over the past year or so leading up to this week.
I won't even try to quantify the emails I've received.
And, as with any change this significant, there have been a few teething problems (not too many thankfully).
But here we are with our launch edition on newsstands around the Bega Valley.
I couldn't be prouder – of the product we've crafted for readers, the opportunities we can deliver to advertisers, but most of all of the team here on the Far South Coast.
As some of you are no doubt aware, I have been appointed as editor of four separate newspapers.
My role at the Bega District News has been expanded to also cover Merimbula News Weekly, Eden Magnet and the Bombala Times.
However, it is my strong belief this does not diminish the ability of these four papers to continue to cater for audiences in each of their regions – as we have done for many, many years.
Each newspaper will retain its own coveted space in the community, with a dedicated bunch of journalists passionate about their own patch.
The paper may look different, but our commitment to our community never will. I sincerely hope readers join us for the ride.
