Faceless has been rewritten from Martin’s preceding play Faceless Four, performed in the Bega Valley last year.
The new version is directed by David Stocker and stars Mahamati, Marty Lyons and Martin himself.
Before they leave for Norfolk Island, the cast of Faceless will be giving Bega Valley audiences a preview of their show at Kameruka Hall on September 24.
Faceless is described by Martin as a thought-provoking musical drama.
When writing the original play, Martin said he was in a place of despair because of the politics at the time.
This helped provide inspiration for the script and the final product examines how people can improve on the current political situation while not being biased to either side of politics.
In Faceless, Mahamati is a political scientist, Lyons an environmental scientist and Martin is their waiter and the play’s musician.
The play revolves around their communication.
“In the end what they come up with is a very good idea,” Martin said.
“It is a hypothetical, as I don’t think it would ever happen, but it is fairly plausible.”
The cast received a Regional Arts NSW grant of $1500 to help them get to the six-day festival, for which they will leave on September 28.
“I’m looking forward to it, it should be a really good experience,” Martin said.
“The object of the exercise is not just to do the play, but also to go to the workshops and gain experience and knowledge then come back to Candelo and pass that knowledge on to the other artists and musicians in the community.”
Martin, a well-known local musician, has been writing songs and scripts for a long time, but Faceless Four was the first play of his that has been performed.
He has a history of involvement in amateur theatre, including once being part of the theme park Old Sydney Town, near Gosford.
Faceless will be performed on Thursday, September 24, at Kameruka Hall from 7.30pm.
