SARA Wilson of South Coast Holiday Parks Bermagui won gold at the recent South Coast Tourism Awards night for her high-quality service.
The cheerful and chatty 29-year-old won the Young Achiever Tourism Award - no small feat as the awards are for people in the tourism industry in the area from Eden to Wollongong.
Ms Wilson works across multiple roles at the Bermagui holiday park, as front of house, assistant manager, social media network coordinator and public relations.
Winning the award provided recognition for the effort she puts into her job.
“It makes you feel like you’re good at your job and you’re doing what you thought were doing,” she said.
“I love local history so it showed that all the self-directed learning I have been doing has paid off.”
She has done a lot of research on the history of the Bermagui region, to inform tourists who visit the holiday park.
“There’s a lot of history in the Bermagui area,” she said.
“It’s not just a sleepy fishing village; it has got a lot more to offer.”
South Coast Holiday Parks Bermagui manager Wayland Mason said Ms Wilson’s gold award was well-deserved.
“We all enjoy her effervescent personality and we always get great feedback about her from our customers,” he said.
While Ms Wilson is originally from Brisbane, she moved to Bermagui in December 2012 after operating a tourist centre in Kakadu National Park.
While living in Kakadu was “unlike anything else”, she and her partner moved to Bermagui for her two children and because they loved the beach.
Ms Wilson has only ever worked in the tourism industry, choosing it because she loves people.
“I love the interaction with people, and most people on holidays are really happy so you don’t often come across anyone who is unhappy,” she said.
“As long as you are polite to them and provide them with the service you promised, they are awesome back to you.”
