IF YOU have a passion for fun, adventure and teaching the next generation, maybe joining the Scouts is for you.
The 1st Bega Scout Group is looking for parents to help out with the club’s activities and hopefully find some people to become Scout leaders.
The Bega Scouts were discontinued about 18 months ago as there were not enough Cubs coming through to the next level and the club’s then-Scout leaders started a Cub group in Merimbula.
“We just need parents to get involved,” district commissioner Gary Pearce said.
“We do have some kids [currently in Cubs] wanting to do Scouts, but we’re lacking leaders.
“It’s easy to be a leader if you have kids in Scouts as you can go and do all the activities with them.”
Club members do everything from going on camps, cooking, sailing, billy kart races hikes and making fishing lines to participating in Anzac Day services.
The club’s children even met the Governor of NSW General David Hurley when he visited Bega earlier this year.
Club members are a part of Bega’s history, as the 97-year-old club is nearing its century.
Cubs who have graduated from the club over the years have gone on to careers in various professions, from joining the CSIRO to working in the Navy.
Training to become a leader involves both hands-on and online components, and those wanting to complete it must go through the relevant child safety checks.
Children are always welcome to join the club.
The Cubs are for ages seven-and-a-half to 11, and if there are enough children interested the Scouts will start up, which is for ages 11-14.
For more information contact Gary Pearce on 0407 286 731, or you can turn up on the night when the Cubs meet, which is every Tuesday of school term from 6.30-8pm at the Bega Scout Hall on Gipps St, Bega next to Club Bega.
