The spectacular Far South Coast has shone in the annual South Coast Tourism Awards with gold medals for Tathra and Bermagui operators.
The Tathra Beach Family Park claimed gold in both the Unique Accommodation and Family Friendly Award categories, as well as a bronze for Accessible Tourism.
Meanwhile young go-getter Sara Wilson from Bermagui’s South Coast Holiday Park won gold in the Young Achiever category.
Ms Wilson, 28, was lauded by her managers Wayland and Karen Mason, who said the awards night in Ulladulla was “fantastic, a great night”.
“The gold is well deserved,” Mr Mason said on Thursday after returning to work.
Mr Mason said Ms Wilson has roles in everything, from front of house, to assistant manager, marketing and social media.
“Sara’s naturally effervescent with all our clients and nothing is ever too much bother for her.”
He said having several Far South Coast operators picking up accolades at the industry event was great news.
“The awards are from Wollongong to Eden.
“There are plenty of tourism operators in there so to have a local hotspot recognised is great news.”
Also picking up gold medals was the Tathra Beach Family Park.
Managing director Carmen Risby was on hand to collect the Family Friendly Award, while park co-owners Frankie J Holden and Michelle Pettigrove were presented with the gold medal for the Tourist and Caravan Parks category.
Ms Risby said it was particularly pleasing to receive this award as changes from previous years meant all tourist and caravan parks across the entire region, large and small, were included in the single category.
“We were up against some really big players in the industry, so being a smaller independent park and being recognised as the best was fantastic,” Ms Risby said.
As well as the two gold medals, Tathra Beach Fmaily Park claimed a bronze medal in the Accesible Tourism category.
Ms Risby said the category was for tourism operators with a strong focus on providing experiences to people with limited access or disability.
Jervis Bay Wild won gold, which Ms Risby said was very well deserved.
“Our big new beach houses are all disabled compliant and we are working all around the park with a focus on our future as being fully inclusive,” she said.
“It’s early days in our focus on that so it was great to be presented bronze.”
The night itself was a coup for the Sapphire Coast.
“When we looked around the room it was almost like ‘where’s the Sapphire Coast?’,” Ms Risby said.
“But the guys who were there really made an impact and put us back on the map.
“The food was sensational, but it tasted even better when we were winning gold!”
