Regional sales representative Gary Etcell said the BDN team was recognised due to its “hard work and diligence”.
He said it was also particularly pleasing for a small team of only three people to rate so highly among their peers at larger newspapers.
On Friday, July 31, Aimee Hay, Mr Etcell and Tess Bertram-Jones attended the Australian Community Media Sales Conference and Awards in Canberra along with representatives from all other Fairfax Regional Media newspapers.
There, Mr Etcell said they had a day of interesting training sessions before being treated to dinner and the awards presentation.
While the team was beaten to first place in its category by the Blayney Chronicle, BDN’s advertising consultant Ms Bertram-Jones said they were still pleasantly surprised to receive a high distinction.
She thought they had been acknowledged for their efforts through a combination of revenue raising and innovation.
“We’re a pretty tight-knit team,” Ms Bertram-Jones said.
“I think we’re also a unique team.
“We are led by Aimee [Hay] who is a very strong team leader.”
The team thanked the Bega Valley community for its constant support of the newspaper and looked forward to attending the awards again next year.
