Sea Eagles captain Luke Taylor said it was disappointing to miss a game, but had been an “honest mistake”.
“It’s a little bit tough, it would have been nice to have another crack at Bega, just to get some game time,” Taylor said.
With news of the cancellation the club did hold an impromptu training and bonding session on Saturday.
However, the club is now just looking forward to getting back on the field, with the Sea Eagles set to face the reigning Pambula Panthers at the Pambula Sporting Complex.
“Obviously they haven’t lost a game for a year and a half, but we’ve got nothing to lose and are looking forward to the challenge,” Taylor said.
“We will make sure we put up a good fight, you’ve got to be in it to win it.”
Meanwhile, the Bega Bombers senior squad will host Narooma at the Bega ground on Saturday.
“All will be forgotten once we get back on the track,” Bombers coach Chris Dwyer said.
Both clubs have youthful line-ups this year and Taylor and Dwyer agree time on the field is the only way to boost experience.
“It will be a great way to give the young guys a real challenge on the field and a bit of experience,” Taylor said.
“[Pambula] can’t win forever - but they’re a class side and well-drilled.
“They’re skillful and have been together for two or three years.”
He said playing together was the best way to build experience and that Tathra had previously enjoyed the success Pambula is now.
Both the Sea Eagles and Bombers are almost guaranteed a finals berth, but the two clubs will be battling to hold good ladder position.
Just three rounds remain in the Sapphire Coast AFL competition after Saturday’s games.
Tathra will play at the Pambula Sporting Comples, while the Bombers will be at the Bega Showground.
Both games are scheduled to start at 2.10pm.
