Free public forum on ‘ice’ draws large and diverse gathering

Drug experts, Aboriginal elders, federal ministers and government officials, health workers, police commanders, teachers, parents and students gathered on Thursday, July 23, at the Eden Fishermen’s Club to attend a free community forum on the drug "ice".

Almost 100 people attended the free public forum, aimed to educate the Eden community about the scourge from crystal methylamphetamine, commonly known as ‘ice’.

The Eden forum was organised by Katungul Aboriginal Corporation Community & Medical Service in conjunction with the Wandarma Drug & Alcohol Service.

MC for the event was the Katungul Chair and the Aboriginal Liaison officer with the Bega Valley Shire Council, Graham Moore.

A ‘Welcome to Country’ was offered by Aboriginal elder Uncle Ossie Cruse, followed by an introductory speech by Federal Member Peter Hendy.

Five speakers specialising in drug management, health services, community assistance and policing then took to the stage, including Dr Rod MacQueen and Detective Inspector Kevin McNeil.
