INNOVATIVE staff were recognised at the Southern NSW Local Health District Quality Awards ceremony in Queanbeyan this week for programs and projects aimed at improving health care throughout the district over the past year.

“We are all aware of the high quality of service provided within the Southern NSW Local Health District,” chief executive Dr Max Alexander said.
“This has been confirmed by various surveys and now by the quality and number of innovations showcased by these awards.
“Congratulations go to all for their dedication and high quality care, particularly those in the Bega Valley Health Service.”
The service’s mental health team was the winner in the Integrated Health Care category, for its Clozapine Collaboration Project.
This project aimed to improve the quality of life and health outcomes for long time users of Clozapine, using a database to enable early health warning signs.
The prestigious Harry Collins Award, for reducing healthcare associated infections, was also taken home by the Bega Valley health service.
This award aims to acknowledge innovative projects and programs that assist in decreasing healthcare-associated bloodstream infections.
The Healthy Mouths in Hospital was an eight-person project, which consisted of providing staff and patients with education strategies to help reduce the risk of complications associated with poor oral health care.
Winners from selected categories will be submitted as nominees to this year’s NSW State Health Innovation Awards to be held later in the year.
