Well it seems that beauty is not lost on big city visitors, with a budding photographer from Canberra winning a recent state-wide competition with an image of Mimosa Rocks National Park.
Aaron Riley works as a wardsman at The Canberra Hospital.
However, when not at his day job, Mr Riley traipses around the region with camera in tow, building up a portfolio of natural landscapes.
A long-exposure shot of the Mimosa Rocks coastline was chosen as the winning entry in the recent Service NSW Great Outdoors Amateur Photography competition.
“Mimosa Rocks is an amazing place to photograph,” Mr Riley said.
He said he submitted several shots from a trip to the Far South Coast to the competition and the winning photo wasn’t even the one he particularly liked.
Service NSW CEO Glenn King must have felt differently, naming it the winner from among 65 “amazing entries”.
The prize included a $50 Kathmandu voucher as well as a 12-month pass to NSW National Parks.
“It was the first competition I’ve entered and it’s great that I don’t have to pay to enter national parks for the next year,” Mr Riley said.
A return to Mimosa Rocks is “definitely” on the cards.
“I’m really into landscape photography and long exposures.
“I’m buying a new camera, a big investment, and I plan to bring it with me to the Bega area soon.
“I’m definitely coming back! There were some spots on Dr George Mountain and Mumbulla Creek I want to photograph – it’s such a beautiful area.”
