The 28-year-old was announced as a top three winner in the dispute resolution category at a function in Sydney on June 5.
“It’s a nice thing to happen while you’re working your way up,” Mr Bass said of the award.
The “30 Under 30” competition was open to Australian lawyers in private practice or in-house, and Mr Bass said dispute resolution concerned commercial disputes such as contracts.
After attending St Patrick’s Primary School in Bega and Bega High School, Mr Bass studied law at the University of Canberra.
He now lives in Canberra and works at Minter Ellison.
Mr Bass is currently working on a class action suit representing the pasture community, suing the government in relation to their June 2011 decision over the live cattle export trade, and the case returns to court in September.
He counts Lee Gill, his Legal Studies teacher at Bega High as a major inspiration to pursue a career in law.
“Another local identity to inspire him is Ross Ritchie, who was his first employer at the Bega Newsagency,” Mr Bass’s father Simon Bass said.
“Ross taught him the physics of throwing a newspaper onto a subscriber's lawn from a fast moving car, and how to never lose an argument.”
