THE Plethora of Postcards exhibition returns for its fourth year.
The exhibition accepts 2D or 3D artworks in any medium; from watercolours, metal and glass mosaics to ceramics.
For the first time, there is also a recyclable category called “yellow bin treasures”.
Once all the postcards are up on the walls or on their plinths, the exhibition’s curator Rachel Annabel said the gallery becomes a "cave of little jewels" into which you can escape from the winter cold outside.
Ms Annabel said the reason the exhibits are only postcard sized was because that was a nice, unthreatening size.
“It’s only a quarter of a page,” she said.
“I think more people should be encouraged to send postcards, it is a good way of communication.”
The Plethora of Postcards organisers have run the occasional workshop over the year, such as one in Youth Week which taught participating youths about ceramics.
While Ms Annabel could not remember its name, she said the standout entry she has seen over the years was an intricate black and white drawing of a swan on a nest, which “just must have taken hours to do”.
The Plethora of Postcards is held in the Spiral Gallery as it fits in with the idea of it being a community exhibition, Ms Annabel said.
She said entrants in the exhibition have increased in number over the years.
For the future, Ms Annabel hoped the exhibition would continue to become bigger and better.
“It would be nice if it went on for the next 100 years,” she said.
The Plethora of Postcards is held from July 17 to August 12 at Sprial Gallery, Bega.
It opens at 5pm on July 17.
To enter, submit your postcards by 4pm on July 3, and for more information email spiralpostcards@gmail.com, call the Spiral Gallery on 6492 5322 or text Rachel Annabel on 0418 923 463.
Prizes come from local businesses.
Entry fees are $5 for adults, $2 for youths or $1 for juniors and the size of the artwork must be a 104mm by 148mm base and up to 200mm tall.
