Decent people
I’m just saying to the people of the Bega district that there are some decent people in our town.
On Thursday, June 18 a certain person went out of his way to help me by ringing the ambulance to help me stop my nose bleeding.
He even got me a chair to sit on in the car park toilet and stayed around to wait for the ambulance to show up and make sure I was alright.
Thank you to the boys of the ambulance as well.

Inappropriate comments
I would like to clarify several matters raised by Ian Gordon in his letter to the editor titled “Flawed Concept” in BDN, June 12.
Sports Aviation Flight College Australia Ltd is an unlisted public company registered late last year, has its registered office in the Bega Valley and its Sydney office in Kent St.
The company was formed to capitalize on China’s decision to deregulate its aviation sector commencing this year 2015.
There are a select group of industry and professional directors heading up the company.
There are no property developers among the directors, a more detailed profile of directors can be found at www.sportsaviationaustralia.com.
The comments regarding Andrew Stoner I feel are inappropriate given.
Andrew entered state parliament in 1999 and retired only a few months ago to spend more time with his wife who was not well.
He has worked tirelessly for 15 years for Regional Development and is hardly a failed politician.
The company’s business plan is to provide aviation studies for Chinese students.
When fully operational there will be 170 employees plus management staff, a total of over 200 new jobs.
Many more local jobs will be created to support the new employees and their families.
When fully operational many 10’s of millions of export dollars will be spent in Bega and the surrounding area each year.
Each student will spend a total of three months at the Sports Aviation College with students being industry ready to move on into other aviation sectors such as commercial pilot training.
Each student will spend around 440 hours in college classrooms and only 40 hours will be flight time.
Both the RPC and RPL are conducted under the Visual Flight Rules (VFR); that is no flight training is conducted at night, daylight hours only.
With respect I would suggest that the Bega Valley Shire Council is not in the business of telling companies who would like to establish here in Bega to “go to hell”, rather it will evaluate the companies’ proposal and development application within the context of the zoning, the development and LEP requirements for the shire of Bega.
The airfield property at Frogs Hollow is approximately 100 acres and is zoned SP2 – Air Transport Facility.
It has been an airfield since approximately 1937 and has been actively used by a sports aviation club for the past 25 years.
The company is currently in discussion with several joint venture entities in order to secure the project funding required.
This is a normal and a very time consuming process and until these financial arrangements are concluded no firm commitment will be made on the college proceeding.
The company will continue to work closely with the existing property owner with the view to secure this valuable enterprise for Bega.

Not for guns
The publicly owned sports and leisure centre in the main street of Narooma was intended for activities that contribute to the well-being of the community and its children.
The Police Citizens Youth Club satisfies this criterion, and is appreciated for the work it does.
The building it occupies on crown land was never intended to be used as a retail outlet for guns in conjunction with a celebration of hunting.
Gun proliferation is abhorrent to most Australians, and council does the area a disservice by letting it appear as if our community condones it.
Making gun ownership accessible and desirable in a festival atmosphere runs the risk of influencing vulnerable children to believe that that killing is easy and fun.
If the HuntFest people are proud of what they are doing why was an ABC TV crew prevented beyond the gate?

Diverse festival
So Eurobodalla Shire Council is excited to announce that it has received funding to host a new festival in our shire.
The purpose of the River of Diversity Festival is to celebrate our shire’s cultural diversity.
Film screenings, dancing, singing and food events are just some of the activities planned for the week.
How exciting for Moruya residents to have their town chosen to host it.
How sad for Narooma residents that it was chosen by the council to host a festival of killing innocent animals and an arms fair.
