Geoff and Esther Odgers are having a house constructed of straw in Lake Street, and have no anxieties about hungry wolves blowing it down.
Alternative materials builder Frank Thomas, an alternative building technology graduate of the University of Kassel, Germany is overseeing the construction, and is being assisted by likeminded volunteers.
“I like the idea of not having heating or cooling issues,” Mr Odgers said.
“The straw is non-toxic and it has beautiful sound-proofing qualities.”
Mr Thomas said that the straw will be coated with clay from the property on the inside and hydrated lime on the outside.
Construction is expected to take around 15 months, and the straw has been sourced from Victoria.
“I can’t wait to come here and live,” Mr Odgers said.
“We have been coming here for years and we love it; it is a glorious part of the world.”
