A GROUP calling itself the Friends of Holy Trinity Kameruka is forming in order to guarantee the ongoing restoration and preservation of the Kameruka Estate, and it’s issuing an urgent call for others to join.

Kameruka Estate was sold in 2007, which heralded the departure of the last remaining descendant of the Lucas-Tooth family.
However, the descendants of the original Kameruka employees continue to visit the estate, with the church of particular importance.
The Holy Trinity Anglican Church was built on Kameruka Estate in 1869, and is still regularly used for marriages, funerals, baptisms and special services.
A particular highlight on the calendar is an annual day of worship, picnic and cricket during October, with gatherings at the Lords View Cricket Oval in the estate.
Those dedicated to the estate are deeply concerned that interest may wane in future years, and maintenance will not be properly managed.
The Friends of Holy Trinity Kameruka want to ensure that ongoing generations continue to “pass the baton”, and keep the historic estate in public consciousness.
Initial interest has been very strong, in particular from people whose relatives are buried in the Kameruka Cemetery.
But many others are coming forward too to lend a hand, simply keen to make sure that history is preserved.
Since the closure of the estate, the grounds and buildings have been maintained by volunteers who have overseen a very significant maintenance and repair program.
In 2014, repairs and maintenance included painting the entry fence, renewal of the sign, and a complete clean of the war memorial.
Thanks to a grant, the church exterior was painted, and internally the floor of the entrance has been polished and missing pews reinstalled.
Families and people interested in joining the Friends of Holy Trinity Kameruka are asked to make contact with the chair of the group and be listed as a Friend.
This is not an appeal for donations or labour, simply the building of a database of like-minded souls interested in receiving communication about the church and future plans, and as a way to record history.
Friends of Holy Trinity Kameruka believe hundreds, maybe thousands, of people have links to Kameruka.
