Each May, the club’s anglers hope for friendly seas, eyeing the horizon with questions of ‘if we can get out, how far will we need to go to get the prized snapper?’
Despite a following system of lows, a stubborn high pressure system held its ground last weekend to provide a canopy of sunshine and slight breezes, making it possible for boats to head out wide to try their luck.
Whilst the sea was quite lumpy on the Saturday morning, it improved across the weekend, making for some enjoyable fishing conditions.
The weigh-in was held at the Tuross Head Country Club’s downstairs barbecue area on Sunday.
A total of 31 fish were entered for judging; including a number in the catch and release club trophy category.
Ultimate honours where taken out by the club’s Federer.
Rodney Federer is becoming just as used to the podium and trophies as his famous racquet-wielding namesake.
“Let’s hope there’s room on that trophy shelf for this new piece of silverware, come the end-of-year awards,” club publicity officer Jo Starling said.
Federer took out the goblet with a 1.347kg snapper, and it also won him the men’s outside prize.
The ladies’ lake and estuary was won by Regina Byron, who reeled in a 2.053kg salmon and the ladies’ rock and beach and outside were not awarded.
Paul Brown reeled in an 11.1kg mulloway to win men’s lake and estuary, Perry Franke won men’s rock and beach with a 2.82kg salmon and Lucas Brown released a 930-gram salmon to win the junior competition.
The mystery weight was not awarded and Simon Ippoliti was the turkey of the month after he forgot to put his bungs in before launching his boat and therefore having to take boat out of the water to drain before continuing his fishing day.
