The Bega Aussie rules outfit was scheduled to play the Narooma Lions in Narooma, but will instead host the Indigenous round at the Bega Showground.
Club veteran Matt Fleet said the Bombers had traditionally been heavily involved in Indigenous round celebrations, but hadn’t planned too much for the away draw.
“It is great news to have the game here and we are rallying to get some things together for the Indigenous round,” Fleet said.
Plans are in motion for didgeridoo players and a Welcome to Country ceremony, but arrangements aren’t set in stone as it has all been last minute.
After a crushing loss to the Merimbula Diggers before the bye round, the Bombers were grateful for a week off to rest injuries and regather.
A few key ins for the squad will be the return of Jack Garland and Corey Robinson.
“Jack is a welcome return and Corey is very good with his hands.”
Fleet hoped Steven Luff would be available to play as a morale-boosting force in the midfield.
“If he is available he will play, Luff is great at controlling the midfield and gets the boys talking,” Fleet said.
Despite getting over the Narooma Lions previously, the Bombers will be fully aware of the game at hand.
“Twice Narooma have come down and we thought it would be a pushover, then they rolled us,” Fleet said.
“This time around they won’t take Narooma lightly.”
The inclusion of league regular Grant Jessop and a few players back from injury should bolster the Bega roster at the right time.
The match will run at the Bega Showground from 2.10pm and is likely to feature some pre-match Indigenous celebrations.
“It’s the Indigenous round so we want everyone to come along and give the boys a cheer,” Fleet said.
