Many of us who worked wrote, compiled and printed the 100th edition are still alive and kicking in the Bega District 50 years down the track.
There was a considerable number of employees in those days as can be seen in the staff photograph in the centenary edition.
We were all very proud of our contribution to the "News" and our local community.

March disgrace
On Anzac Day my husband and I took our two little great-grandchildren to watch the main march, to see the returned soldiers and people representing their departed loved ones wearing medals so proudly.
Then came the Bega Roosters Football Club players and supporters.
In among these players was one of my great nephews wearing his great-great-grandfather’s medals proudly.
Didn’t anyone tell the football club it was a march for our returned servicemen and women and those who lost their lives fighting for our country?
Because in front of the football club marchers there were girls carrying a Bega football banner and written on the banner was “Go the Roosters”.
It looked like they were going to a football game, not marching in an Anzac Day march.
It was a disgrace to see this.
I have watched my brothers and my grandsons play for the Bega Roosters, but this action left me disgusted with the club.

Offensive conduct
A great game of junior soccer last Sunday in Merimbula was attempted to be hijacked by a solo abusive loud-mouthed parent who attracted the ire of all attending the game.
This individual sitting in the bleachers, together with many families, by his shouted comments brought shame upon himself and the Wolumla Tigers Soccer Club with his commentary.
The Wolumla Tigers Soccer Club needs to pull its socks up following incidents over recent years of Tigers supporters’ misbehaviour and offensive conduct, taking away from the boys and girls enjoying their sport.

Safer option
On Monday afternoon I was shocked to witness a lady have a fall on the car park escalators in the Sapphire Marketplace.
As a result of the lady’s misfortune I wish to mention to any readers who may be unaware, the lifts located in the underground car park are an alternative to using the escalators, just make sure you hold the door open as you enter them so they don’t close as you step inside.
The escalators are efficient large-volume people movers, but for some of us folks the lifts are the safer option.
