A 20-year lease of the building is available to 2035, with options to extend the lease to 2075.
“The decision was taken because our preference is to enter long-term leases for our retail premises rather than holding property assets,” a Woolworths spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said the auction for the store is a standard sale and leaseback.
A sale and leaseback is when the owner of a building sells it, but remains as a tenant.
Bermagui Woolworths will be auctioned on May 19 at 2pm.
Hot pizzas next on Woolies menu
BUSINESS has been going well at the new Bermagui Woolworths store since it opened a month ago.
Store manager Craig Scott said the supermarket has been going “good so far”.
“I think the community has really taken to us,” he said.
“All we’ve had back is positive feedback.”
Mr Scott said most customers come from Bermagui, but there are also some who make the trip from Cobargo.
He thought there was also a group from the Cobargo community who were organising a bus to take them to Bermagui Woolworths for their shopping.
There is also a pizza bar in the store, where customers can have their own pizzas prepared and, soon, baked.
Mr Scott said the bar’s pizza oven has arrived and will be installed in the next few days.
“Pizzas are going really well,” he said.
“It is probably a surprise for the company how well they have gone.”
Woolworths has only embraced pizza ovens recently, and Mr Scott said there are only about five or six in stores around NSW.
