The Bombers will take on the reigning premier Pambula Panthers, while the Sea Eagles need to contest the Kenny Jack Cup with the Bermagui Breakers.
“We’re keen to get our hands back on the Cup,” club veteran Luke Taylor said.
For the Bombers it will be a big task.
“Going against Pambula this week will be our hardest challenge to date,” Bombers coach Chris Dwyer said.
The Panthers went undefeated last year to claim the premiership and have early signs of similar form this season.
Dwyer said the Bombers will be a bit faster and fitter across the park, concentrating on a new brand of running game.
“We are playing more of a running game and moving the ball through our hands,” he said.
“Training has been going well and the numbers are solid ... you always want more, but it’s been good.”
Taylor said the Tathra squad wanted to bounce back from a loss to the Panthers and secure the Kenny Jack Cup.
“He was a really well-known player who played for both clubs and Bermagui actually won it near the end of last season.
“We will have a few guys back this weekend and really want to see the trophy back in Tathra hands.”
“It is a big game for us, Bermagui has a new coach and they are looking strong.”
Taylor said he wasn’t too concerned about the early season as Tathra historically has a strong team at the times when it counts.
Last year the Bombers got within striking distance of closing out Pambula’s undefeated run and will be hoping for that result on Saturday.
Key combinations could make the difference for the Bombers as they develop new strategies under Dwyer’s coaching.
Pambula will be sticking to its guns and it will be up to the Bega squad to throw the Panthers off their game.
With some key players back in the ranks to bring impact off the bench for the Sea Eagles, they will put on a strong showing against the Breakers.
Both games start at 2.10pm on Saturday with the Eagles hosting the Breakers at Lawrence Park, Tathra, while the Bombers will travel to the Pambula Sporting Complex.
