People with Lyme disease - an infection caused by tick bites - and their supporters are out and about in the community raising the profile of this debilitating disease and alerting people to symptoms to look out for.
Sout-East NSW is a hotspot for Lyme disease in Australia.
A local support group, the NSW Far South Coast Lymies, is hosting an information stall at Friday’s SCPA Markets in Littleton Gardens, Bega, as part of awareness events being held in 20 countries around the world.
The Lymies are inviting people to stop by and have a chat about Lyme disease in Australia, take home information to share with family and friends, and maybe donate towards Lyme disease research projects in Australia.
At the information stall people will also be able to participate in the “Take a Bite out of Lyme” challenge.
A photo booth will be set up and participants will be invited to take a photo of themselves biting on a wedge of lime while holding a Lyme disease awareness message and then share that image on their social media and to the Lyme challenge pages #lymediseasechallenge #lymediseasechallengeaustralia .
If you are up to the “Take a Bite out of Lyme” challenge, the NSW Far South Coast Lymies would like to see you at the SCPA Markets, Littleton Gardens, Bega, on May 8.
