Meanwhile, at Tathra, the reigning premier Pambula Panthers were sinking their claws into the Tathra Sea Eagles.
The Bombers shot away to an early lead over the visitors with excellent running from Aaron Wheatley, coach Chris Dwyer and Cody Hazelgrove-Danvers.
Up front the accurate kicking of Adam Blacka was paying dividends as the home side fired consecutive goals in the opening quarter.
With excellent marking and big kicks coming from Bega's backline the home side was set up for a strong game.
Unfortunately it was a different story for Tathra, who were under the thumb of the visiting Panthers.
Reggie O'Loghlin was taking excellent marks in the goal area to keep Tathra in touch, but a number of wide kicks and some missed catches had them falling short of level with last year's premiers.
The Panthers were pushing play forward quickly with youngster Josh Hammond, while the regulars in Sean Smith and Aaron Proctor provided solid play through the midfield.
By the half-time break, the visiting Panthers were leading 70- 29.
