It was the first time the Tigers had ventured into Roosters territory since 1970, after re-joining the Group 16 competition this year.
They were given a rude awakening as Bega powered to 20-6 in the first half and continued to run away with the score in the second to record their fourth win of the 2015 Group 16 competition.
“It was a good fast game,” Bega Roosters club president Garry Arkin said.
Arkin said he was pleased to celebrate a home win across all three senior grades, topping the night off with a first grade victory.
“Bega capitalised on their opposition, but credit to Batemans Bay. They are a strong team and never gave up,” he said.
Bega opened its try-scoring campaign in the 13th minute with a Todd Ingram try.
Sean Bell was quick to follow over the try-line to make it 8-0, and James Bower-Scott added the extra points.
First half points followed from Bell, Tate Cochrane and conversions from Bower-Scott, whereas Brent Pan was the lone try scorer for Bay, with Jacob Hill adding the extra points to take the score to 20-6 at the break.
Bega continued its dominance in the second thanks to tries to Hayden Parberry, Robbie Ringland, Todd Ingram, Brenton Blair and Mitch Carter, with Bower-Scott on target.
Mitch Freeman claimed the Tigers’ only points in the second half, final score 46-12.
Tigers coach Matt Cross said his team experienced a high quality of football in Bega.
“I know a few of their players and know they have a good quality side.
“It was always going to be a tough day at the office,” he said.
Despite this, Cross was pleased with how his team performed.
“I was happy with them,” he said.
“They ticked all the boxes we spoke about before the game, but unfortunately we didn’t come away with the win,” he said.
“We didn’t care about the score line. We set out there to achieve team and personal goals and I feel we did that.”
Best on field for the Tigers were young front-rower Scott Belcher and fullbacks Mick Tadich and Mason Harrison, whereas Bega’s Clay Child and Scott Ingram impressed.
Bega also dominated in reserve grade with a 32-6 win over Batemans Bay.
The Roosters continued their winning streak in the under 18s competition with a crushing 62-4 victory to remain undefeated in the 2015 competition.
Best players on ground for the under 18s were Mitchel Duncan Declan Bower-Scott James Duncan, while best for Reserve grade were Scott Barton, Jye Britten Larry Fuller and Jay Elliott.
All of Group 16 will have a break this weekend due to the Group’s representative game.
Play will resume for round six on Sunday, May 10.
The Bega Roosters will play the Moruya Sharks at Ack Weyman Oval and the Batemans Bay Tigers will take on the Eden Tigers at McKay Park.
