The purpose of the plant is to overcome existing water problems in Bemboka as a recent risk assessment by NSW Health and other stakeholders identified a water filtration plant as a priority for the town due to water borne pathogens.
The land will cost $90,000 and is located east of Bemboka on the Snowy Mountains Hwy, adjacent to where council already has a water filtration and pump plant.
Works on the plant are scheduled to begin in 2015/16 and continue over two years.
Consultation over the plans has already taken place with the current owner of the land but construction of the plant will not proceed until after community consultation.
The plant is listed in council’s long term financial plan for the 2016/17 financial year.
At council’s meeting on April 8 the matter was resolved on the motion of Councillors Michael Britten and Sharon Tapscott and passed unanimously.
Crs Keith Hughes and Ann Mawhinney were absent.
