CHECKOUT (ABC) has always been one of my favourite programs, both because I learn an awful lot about my consumer rights and because it's very entertaining.

When it returned to our screens on Thursday, the main subject under the microscope was the alleged testing, or clinical trials, of beauty products.
Kirsten Drysdale had an offsider who she introduced, as she shoved him in front of a bench with a Bunsen burner: “This is Brian Schmidt – he's a scientist”.
Schmidt: “Actually, I'm a physicist and we don't normally use Bunsen burners.”
Kirsten: “In 2001, Brian won something – sciency.”
Schmidt showing a large gold medal: “That's the 2011 Nobel prize in physics.”
Later on as he didn't seem to be paying attention, Kirsten asked what he was doing.
Schmidt: “I'm measuring the expansive rate of the universe”.
Kirsten: “No mate, you're on TV, play with this – it's visual”.
On it went.
Brian Schmidt was so sweet and game, prepared even to get blown up.
What a coup for Checkout and I thoroughly enjoyed and laughed at this segment, as well as finding out that clinical trials were no trials at all.
IT USED to be one of our favourite sports, but swimming doesn't appear to have much appeal any more.
The Australian Swimming Championships were hidden away on One.
It was a good coverage but except for Grant Hackett making a comeback, no one seemed to care, and there were actually very few people in the stands to cheer the swimmers on.
Anyhow I watched every night.
WELL, we found out about the murder on How to Get Away With Murder (Prime) and now we'll see the repercussions.
On murders, few programs have more bodies than Witnesses (SBS) which finished on Wednesday.
I think it was double figures for corpses, twice as many more than the usual count on Midsomer Murders (ABC) which has returned with the new Barnaby (cousin to the old) as a father.
NEW TRICKS (ABC) has finally been given the axe.
The new cast (except for Dennis Waterman) didn't have the appeal of the old, but despite that it's been getting great ratings, being in the top ten for the last weeks or so.
Actually the last episode was very good, up to the old standard, and next Saturday will be the final of this series, but there's another series yet to see before the farewell one.
