The man said he lost his licence renewal letter while moving properties, and after family members told him not to bother about it carried on driving without a licence for some 60 years.
When the system became computerised, the man remained off the state’s records despite having passed his driver’s test previously.
His missing documentation was discovered after his car was rear ended in 2005 and he was forced to get learner plates.
After later failing his driver’s test the man was told he would not get a license without a court order.
“I was not feeling well on that day,” the man said.
