I am neither for nor against the sport of clay target shooting and I have no involvement in the activity, this is not my fight and I have thought long and hard about writing this.
However, as a resident of the Murrah I also thought I was entitled to offer a factual comment on the issue.
I do live at the Murrah and I do hear the sounds that the clay target shooting makes, sometimes it is louder than other times depending on which way the wind is blowing. However, after many years of hearing it, the sounds that I do hear are so insignificant they do not register and do not bother me personally.
I could not even tell you the last time the club had a shoot, I could not tell you what time of day shooting starts nor what time of day the shooting finishes.
As it is a rural activity the sounds I do hear blend into the rural landscape that is the Murrah.
I do love the diversity of our little community, but not at the expense of one way of life or activity oppressing another.
To offer a comparison and try to put the “noise pollution” into perspective, I live on the Tathra Bermagui Rd.
The constant noise of traffic (cars, trucks, tour buses, caravans, sports motorcycles) that travel day and night 24/7 along what once was a quiet peaceful rural track and what is now a busy main road is so “invasive and constant” and at times quite dangerous.
But I, or as far as I am aware nobody else who lives along this road, have never asked BVSC to relocate this road nor is it fair that BVSC be considering asking the Bermagui Field and Game Club to relocate their established site away from where it is currently situated now.
As I said this is not my fight personally and I have always held my tongue on the subject and never offered any submissions or comments, allowing the chips to fall where they may, so to speak.
I previously held a confidence that BVSC would uphold an unbiased, uninfluenced and fair decision on the issue and continue to give this sporting club a fair go, like it does to all the other activities in the area.

My mantra is always to give credit where it is due.
I hope and expect other people to do the same.
In two statements in the BDN, Andrew Constance has claimed credit for the new Bega Hospital.
Quote: “The Baird government is investing $178million into the Princes Hwy and the South East regional Hospital” and in another statement claims credit for the hundreds of short-term jobs at the Bega hospital and Eden Port.
The $178million for the new regional hospital consists of $160million from the Federal Government obtained by the constant lobbying of the previous Member for Eden-Monaro, Labor’s Mike Kelly.
Not just promises, not just commitments, but the actual funds on the ground.
The State Liberal Government contributed $16million to enable it to go ahead.
Not to acknowledge where the main part of the money came from is in my mind dishonest.
Mike Kelly wasn’t even invited to the “turning of the sod”.
The Bega community is well aware of the source of the funds.
Again I stress give credit where it is due.

Airlines are now starting to weigh carry on hand luggage.
This is a safety requirement to ensure that the aircraft are not overloaded, and have a weight distribution within parameters for smaller aircraft.
But…why should I be hassled for a kilo over weight in hand luggage when people weigh more than me?
So I wish to propose that the price for a ticket is subject to the total weight - that is, total weight of person and baggage.
Before you all cry discrimination think of this.
Children over two years old are charged at adult fare - is this fair?
So here is the proposal:
Book your ticket, but the final price is determined on overall weight of person and luggage.
The less you weigh and carry determines the final ticket price.
Pay for what you actually cost not a false projected ticket cost imposed by the airlines, and accept a reduced cost based on weight for all passengers.
