The free event, Fresh Moves for Youth Week, will be on April 11 at Bega High School hall.

It will start with a drumming workshop with David Hewitt from 3-4pm, a hip hop class with Cayce Hill from 4-5pm and finish with a dance party from 5-7pm. 

West African dance and drumming band Bembakan, which is led by Mr Hewitt, will play at the dance party. 

Fling associate director Gabrielle Rose said hip hop was a great age-accessible dance style and very popular, featuring in plenty of films, music videos and YouTube clips. 

“I think it’s a style that’s fun and really easy to pick up,” Ms Rose said. 

She said Ms Hill teaches an easy class that anyone can do. 

Having plenty of expertise, Ms Hill has been dancing since she could walk and has been training from seven years old. 

She has found younger people respond well to hip hop. 

Fling was given a small grant from the Bega Valley Shire Council earlier this year to put on this combined event. 

Fresh Moves for Youth Week will be on April 11 from 3-7pm at the Bega High hall. 

“We see it as really about celebrating young people and giving them the opportunity to let go for a while and have fun,” Ms Rose said. 

“We just want to see some bright, young faces there, and we want to meet new people in the community.” 

There will be no entry without signed permission slips, which are available from Bega High or can be written by children’s parents with a name, signature, parent contact details and date granting permission.
