Re-elected NSW Premier Mike Baird is expected to make an announcement over a reshuffled Cabinet later this week after successfully returning to the top job in Saturday’s election.
There are rumours Mr Constance is headed for the Health portfolio with former banker Gladys Berejiklian making the step up into Treasury.
However, “there’s always talk” Mr Constance said yesterday.
“It’s all in the hands of the Premier,” he said.
“Mike will put the best people in the best positions and I am happy to serve in any capacity.
“What is most exciting is the building of infrastructure across the state will be phenomenal.
“And it’s my position to push very hard for that to include rural areas.”
Mr Constance said he was “humbled” by Saturday’s election result, which returned him for his fourth term as Member for Bega with over 52 per cent of the primary vote.
“I’m very grateful for the Bega electorate’s confidence in me as their member again for the next four years,” he said.
“I’m proud of the building work we’re part of in this region including the Eden Port and new regional hospital.
“From my perspective I want to continue to work as hard as I have been.
“I’m also grateful to my campaign team who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes for the past nine to 12 months.”
Mr Constance also thanked his political opponents for the way in which they conducted their campaigns.
However, he was less complimentary to the union movement.
“The lies they told are unacceptable,” he said.
“There’s no way in the world we were going to Americanise the Bega Hospital; Essential Energy remains completely in public hands.
“This result clears the air around the ridiculous political situation we’ve had in previous years.
“Mike has a clear focus on cleaning up politics.
“People were quite right to lose confidence over what’s been seen over the past 10 years, but that’s all behind us now.
“I love working closely with Mike, I always will, and we continue to put community first.
“That’s the key to this.
“If you start to focus on yourself, the community will walk away from you.”
