The club, which is primarily based around fantasy wargaming, such as Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000, has just taken up residency at the Tura Beach Country Club and is welcoming new members.
Club president Josh Shoobridge said members were open to most board and card games as well.
“People just bring along random board games, you’ll have games like Risk, Diplomacy, Werewolves and there is one called Mobsters - it’s essentially games that are a bit alternative,” Mr Shoobridge said.
“Primarily we are hobbyists, it accounts for about 90 per cent of us, but things like Magic the Gathering get played too.”
The club also welcomes historical games including Flames of War, a World War II miniature game.
If you’ve never tried your hand at wargaming and would like to without a big investment, Mr Shoobridge said the club was welcoming newcomers, with the club offering “tryout” armies of miniatures for use.
“We have armies [of hobby miniatures] that are owned by the club that are for new people to try and use,” he said.
“A lot of us are keen to talk about and just show new people how to play.
“It’s all about growing the hobby.”
Mr Shoobridge said the club had a varied background, with male and female members of varying ages, but all shared an interest in hobby gaming.
“It’s a very diverse group, but we all mix very well together, sharing in a passion for gaming,” he said.
Mr Shoobridge, who has been a hobbyist for over a decade said he was eager to welcome new members and helped launch the Facebook group, as well as a podcast and YouTube channel.
“I’ve been playing [Warhammer] 40k for most of that time and just got into fantasy and Lord of the Rings in the last year or so,” he said.
“I’ve also been a historical war gamer for about five years.”
If you are interested in trying out hobby gaming for yourself, you can contact Mr Shoobridge on 0409 015 172 or through the Merimbula Wargaming Society Facebook group.
“If people don’t know what the games are we can meet them and give them a bit of insight,” Mr Shoobridge said.
The club meets fortnightly at the Tura Beach Country Club from 5.30pm until late with the next meeting to be held on April 2.
