Roads and Maritime Services advised the Snowy Mountains Hwy at Brown Mountain is being investigated to help plan for future maintenance work.
One lane of the highway will be closed between 7am and 1pm on Saturday, March 28, for drilling work to monitor the stability of the slope.
The road will be reduced to one lane about 500 metres down the hill from where work was carried out last week to install a new concrete drain.
Traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40kmh will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists.
The highway will be open on Saturday afternoon and Sunday before a section is reduced to one lane again between Monday, March 30, and Thursday, April 2, to complete the drain installation work.
The highway will be open to traffic on Friday, April 3, to ensure improved journeys for motorists during the Easter break.
Roads and Maritime thanked motorists for their patience while this work is carried out.
