Ryka Ali and his grandmother's heritage stems from the Wuthathi tribe of Shellburne Bay, Cape York and from the Torres Strait Islands.
Grandma Cindy Drummond explained where the Torres Strait and Cape York were and described her dress as an Islander.
Ryka was initially dressed as an Islander, and showed the children the musical instruments and dances of that tradition, before changing into his Aboriginal outfit, where he painted himself with ochre, showed the children Aboriginal artefacts and illustrated how to throw a boomerang and of course taught them dances and songs.
Throughout the show the children were involved in the action, both by coming up and joining with Ryka and Grandma as they danced and sang, or just participating where they sat and stood, and everyone had great fun when imitating an emu and a kangaroo.
The performance was presented by Bega Valley Family Day Care.
