The new town hall is sporting a patchwork of various shades of blue and grey this week as the construction enters its final months – it is due to open later this year.
A photo of the façade the BDN posted on our Instagram and Facebook pages became a hot topic, but not everyone was cool with the pattern.
Comments included “looks like a police station”, “that is hideous” and “oh my goodness”.
One reader asked “do the squares change colour? Could be the Bega Rubix cube.”
Another said “ way out Lego buildings are for new cities, not this former pretty old town” .
However, there was also some love for the new look.
“At last Bega is starting to take off…very slowly,” one commenter said.
“Gee enough with the negativity! Bega has never looked so good,” wrote another.
In contention for comment of the week is Narelle Spence’s contribution: “I guess it looks ok, but I hope they don't hold anything in it that goes longer than 3 hours because you'll have to leave and move your car.”
Meanwhile, expressions of interest for management services for the new Bega Civic Centre close on March 20.
Bega Valley Shire Council manager of community and culture Simon Schweitzer said the council was interested in management proposals from appropriately qualified and experienced organisations.
Mr Schweitzer said the civic centre was designed to be a multi-functional facility that will work as the primary meeting place for the community.
“The hall and various other rooms and spaces will provide the adaptable facilities for a wide range of receptions, performances, musical recitals, conferences, school and community events, exhibitions and shows of varying sizes,” Mr Schweitzer said.
“Large meetings, concerts, touring shows and bands and functions with attendances up to 500 will also be accommodated.”
Expressions of interest close at 4pm on March 20.
