There will be a picnic among this year’s eclectic mix of sculptures on Endeavour Point Headland, Bermagui, and the announcement of the People’s Choice Awards for 2015.
Gypsies from Outer Space will be playing live music and the main event, the fire sculptures, will be extravagantly manifested by Tanja-based artists Yuri Wiedenhofer and Chris Polglase with help from local school children.
The awe-inspiring event will take place from 5pm and run until 8pm.
“I find that it is one of the highlights of the event because it draws family groups, which is absolutely wonderful,” event manager Jan Ireland said.
Ms Ireland said fire is something that attracts us all in some way and when seen in a controlled and safe environment can mesmerise viewers.
“Fire is one of those amazing elements, and it looks great along the headland,” she said.
“It’s extremely primal.”
Local school children from Bermagui Public and Bermagui Preschool will also have their work created during workshops with sculptor Sharon Stevens on display.
“It’s one of the great free events from Sculpture on the Edge,” Ms Ireland said.
Mr Wiedenhofer’s spontaneous fire sculptures amaze the crowds every year.
His theme this year, titled Black Square, is a grid reminiscent of a chess board, and references the game’s links to intellectuals throughout past history and our increased need to be aware in our age of “knowledge, information and security,” he said.
“Black absorbs all light, and light is seen as good and warm,” he said.
