Seventy years ago this month, three little girls met in Kindergarten in Bega and so began a friendship that has lasted all those years.
To celebrate this special occasion, Barbara Fenn (nee Watling), Rae Shaw (nee Stoney) and Beryl “Totty” Hatton (nee Tapper) enjoyed a 70-year reunion at Tathra this week.
Barbara lives in Bega, Rae on the Gold Coast and Beryl in Sydney, but they decided the reunion should be in the local area so they could visit all their old haunts.
They have happy memories of learning to swim and being Esther Williams at “The Junction”, hiking on Dr George Mountain and having a sausage sizzle, getting a suntan at Tathra – with the help of Johnson’s baby oil – playing in the parks, as well as riding their bikes around Bega.
What an idyllic childhood it was!
Part of the fun of the reunion will be looking at old photos and reliving their happy days of growing up in Bega – plenty of chatter and sore throats are sure to follow!
