The junior rider has taken a strong interest in endurance racing and has been rewarded with a third place in the Husky 100.
Proud dad Tim said Sebastian rode in the event’s 50km endurance ride held in Huskisson.
“He also competes in Tathra and came third in the Enduro,” Tim said.
Sebastian has a growing interest in the sport after seeing some success.
“At the moment he’s just enjoying his riding,” Tim said.
“He is enjoying it and I think that’s the most important part of any sport.
“I have been trying to encourage him, but he has gone way beyond my ability now - it’s very hard to keep up with him,” he said with a laugh.
Sebastian now operates with a Garman GPS device to track his rides and also uses a popular biking app STRAVA.
The app provides an online database of track times and lists your ranking based on a timed lap of the course.
“On a lot of sections of track he is up in the top 10,” Time said.
“He is seeing results and loves to compete - I’m not quite sure where he got that from,” he said with a laugh.
The rides have been giving the rising cyclist a confidence boost as he looks to take competition to a new level.
“It is exciting to see him develop physically and mentally,” Tim said.
“He has been in some national series races, and he’s going to the national mountain bike championships this month, and looking forward to that.”
Sebastian and Tim were at the Bega Pool for the Business House Relay on Saturday, but Tim said the bike was proving more enjoyable for his son.
“The black line isn’t quite as exciting as the single track,” he said.
