On Friday, winners of the Summer Reading Program were drawn in Bega library, with participating children and their parents in attendance.
Anyone who takes part in the six-week program, by reading books in the shire’s libraries, goes into the draw.
This year, 58 children of various ages joined the program and 37 participated in the weekly draws, reading 430 books through the program.
Last year, 89 children joined and 45 children participated in the draws - but they only read 320 books.
“We have been doing the Summer Reading Program for 11 years now, and it’s really great because a lot of the children have been continuing on from when they were younger,” children’s/young adult librarian at Bega library Anne Moore said.
Bega Valley Shire councillors Liz Seckold and Ann Mawhinney drew the winners of the grand draw on Friday, and congratulated children for their participation in the program.
Eden participants were the lucky ones this time, as the majority of winners came from that library’s program.
Children received prizes from such sponsors as Magic Mountain, Candelo Books, Top Video Bega, Merimbula Ice Creamery, Merimbula McDonalds and Merimbula Aquarium.
