She featured as the woman of the match in the NRL’s Indigenous v All Stars round last week in Queensland, scoring a double.
Apps said the game was easier for her than the Nines tournament, even though she played injured.
“We all bonded a bit better going in to the All Stars, the preparation was so much better,” Apps said.
“I was injured, but I am getting better, I was a lot better than in the nines.
“And I just went looking for the ball a lot more.”
The result was an outstanding game and two stunning tries.
So it comes as no surprise that Apps has been heavily involved in preparations for local women ahead of a full contact contest.
It will be Group 16’s first full contact women’s match and act as a curtain-raiser to the local Indigenous v All Stars clash under lights in Bega.
Unfortunately, Apps isn’t able to play due to injury, but took a cheerful approach saying she would rather see someone else get to have a go than playing herself.
“I can’t wait to sit back on the sidelines and watch, they will show the talent that they have,” Apps said.
“They will surprise themselves with how well they go, I know a few have played union and are prepared, but for some it will be their first time [experiencing the physicality].
“But they’ll realise it’s not that bad.”
Group 16 president Dean Lynch welcomed the idea of the game and said some other groups had crossed over to full-contact competitions.
“It is interesting to note that in some groups the ladies have progressed to full contact because it has been a natural progression that has been driven by the ladies,” Mr Lynch said.
“I am not sure if it will happen in Group 16, but this game will be a good promotion to demonstrate the large presence women now have in rugby league.”
Apps is welcoming the game.
“Finally having this one off will get more girls interested and maybe see a comp in the future,” she said.
The games will play at the Bega Recreation Ground on March 7.
