Paramedics and other emergency services have worked for almost three hours with a man in his 60s who was trapped in his car.
The man has been freed from the wreckage of his vehicle and is being transported to The Canberra Hospital in a critical condition. The road is not expected to open for at least another 15 minutes.
Alternating (stop/slow) conditions are now in place on the Princes Highway at Frogs Hollow (south of Bega) following the car accident about one kilometre south of Wanatta Lane.
Diversions around the accident site have now been lifted, however motorists are advised to continue to allow additional travel time and exercise caution past the accident.
Emergency services and traffic crews remain at the scene.

UPDATE, 10am:
A CAR crash has closed the Princes Hwy at Frog’s Hollow.
About 9.45am emergency services were still working to free the man trapped in the car, who was in a critical condition.
Detective Sergeant Justin Marks said they hoped to free the driver soon and transport him to Canberra Hospital.
Around 7.20am on Monday morning the vehicle, a Hyundai, was travelling along the Princes Hwy to Bega from Merimbula.
“On a straight part of the highway the vehicle, consisting of one male, has left the road for unknown reasons at an unknown speed and collided with a tree,” Detective Sergeant Marks said.
“At this stage the male is trapped by confinement, which means he is significantly trapped.
“The emergency services and police first on scene were greatly assisted by an off-duty nurse from Bega Hospital, who stopped by as she was returning home from her shift.”
The local police, ambulance services, Volunteer Rescue Association and Rural Fire Service attended the scene.
The Snowy Hydro SouthCare Helicopter landed around 9am with a doctor and a paramedic, who began treating the trapped man and assisting the other emergency services.
“The Princes Hwy has been closed in both directions with road diversions in place by the RMS,” Detective Sergeant Marks said.
He said the highway would remain closed until the driver was freed but was unsure when that would occur.
After the driver is freed, the area will be processed by Bega detectives.
9.15am:
The driver of a car is in a serious condition and currently trapped after hitting a tree close to Wolumla this morning.
A NSW Ambulance spokesman said that the Snowy Hydro SouthCare helicopter was currently at the site at 9am and that emergency services were working to free the trapped person.
The spokesman said that it was a single vehicle accident and that paramedics had been called at 7.26am this morning to the Princes Highway.
Police have said that the highway is closed.
