Kathryn Davis started there this year, moving from Towamba Public School where she held the position as principal for the last four years.
She replaces previous principal Ros Bannon, who worked at the school for around five years.
Candelo resident Ms Davis said the relocation occurred as Towamba Public was recently reclassified a category P6 school from a P5 one, as enrolment numbers had been decreasing over the past few years.
Before Towamba she worked at a Kangaroo Valley school for about 13 years, where she held an assistant principal position.
Ms Davis will be teaching the Quaama Public senior class of Years 4, 5 and 6, and said she was very happy to be there.
“It’s a lovely school, with gorgeous kids,” she said.
“I’m very used to teaching multi-aged, multi-stage classes.”
While she was the instigator of changes at Towamba Public, she said she wanted to find out more about her new school before putting any plans in place.
“Really the principal’s job in their first year is to find out more about the school before any changes are made,” Ms Davis said.
“The first staff meetings we have had are about what we love, and what we need more.
“At the moment I’m getting to know the kids names and getting to know the parents.
“But I don’t see too much change ahead, as it is already a great school,” she said.
Ms Davis will be at Quaama Public for at least six months, and hopefully longer, she said.
“I think the role of any incoming principal is to keep the good ship Quaama moving forward on a steady ocean,” she said.
“The core of a great school is great teaching staff, and the ones here are very experienced.
“They’re like me, they love small schools and know how great they are.”
