Christ might agree with Tim Cochran's letter (BDN, 6/1).

The church in Jesus' day put him down for associating with prostitutes and sinners instead of hobnobbing it with them at church or the local charity "do".
The Bible: "the heart of man/woman is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked".
The picture below Tim's letter, (from a Wolumla writer) shows someone's attempt at painting-out a disability parking spot.
It illustrates a godless world believing there's no final accountability.
Tune into the daily news, haven't we have picked up a cancer along the way?
We need our own sorry day, requesting forgiveness and the restoration of hope.
The Good Book, "The fool has said in his/her heart - there is no God".
It's a case of us examining our own hearts.
It's not "religion" or "the church" discriminating against vulnerable people, or voluntarily joining a group that means war, or doing other evil things.
Cochran argues that living in a world without values or spiritual meaning is better than in one in which faith is demonstrated.
His letter doesn't do away with the existence of good in a godless world nor does he explore it.
Forty years on Tim you may be contemplating Christ's words "I have come that they might have living water…I am the living bread…I will give of my body, which I give for the life of the world".
Us believers put our faith in the Godman, "God has chosen the weak things of this world to confound the mighty" - the birth, life and death of Jesus showed that.
"I will come again", Jesus.

Opposition ignored
In early September the Eurobodalla Shire Council invited submissions from the community to determine attitudes regarding the sale of guns and ammunition at the next three annual festivals of hunting in a public building in Narooma.
The results of those submissions have been interpreted as giving council approval for the sale of guns to go ahead, even against the wishes of residents.
Eighty per cent of the ratepayers and residents who responded with submissions gave strong reasons for opposing any proliferation of guns, not least of all being the very real danger to the children the community is supposed to protect.
People who truly love this area ask why risk our reputation, our wildlife and our safety for the benefit of hunters?
Such strong community opposition was not the result Councillors Burnside, Pollock, Schwartz, Leslight and Innes wanted to hear, as they have ignored any opposition to the festival of hunting ever since it was first mooted in 2012, and have stubbornly supported the hunters ever since.
The ERA councillors even went so far as to announce even before the period for making submissions was over, that continuing local opposition would not make them change their position!
Petitions, rallies, forum presentations, meetings, have all been dismissed by the above councillors as the unrepresentative views of a noisy minority, but the opposition to an annual kill fest in this idyllic seaside town is widespread and genuine.
The submissions called for by council on “Guns or No guns” were the first real concession to the oft-quoted local government ideals of public engagement and consultation.
Unfortunately the count became a mockery when council decided to give the same importance to the number of submissions from people living outside the shire, as it gave to residents.
Those from outside the shire supporting gun sales were no doubt boosted by the support given by the Shooters and Fishers Party on its website.
As a result of this distortion of results, a powerful lobby group of hunters with the backing of a majority of councillors and of certain sections of the media, has been able to score a victory over the wishes of the people who live here.
Why this has been allowed to happen is a question council and its administrative staff have not been able to answer satisfactorily.
Must we rely on state intervention or be forced to wait till the next council election to elect councillors who are truly committed to democratic local government?
No guns for Narooma!
