Mr McPherson visited the Bega electorate office of Member for Eden-Monaro Peter Hendy on Friday to give presents to Prime Minister Tony Abbott, Treasurer Joe Hockey and Minister for Finance Senator Mathias Cormann.
“I am sure these are honest, intelligent men who have access to the vast resources of the Treasury and Department of Finance – but they keep getting their numbers wrong,” Mr McPherson said.
“I firmly believe their calculators are faulty.”
Mr McPherson said on a “normal routine week” he travels 120km in his car, using 14 litres of fuel.
“I’ve worked out I’m paying an increase in fuel excise of around 65 cents, not the 40 cents estimated by the government.
“And I am sure 120km would be under the average.
“Then it’s similar with the carbon tax repeal that is meant to be saving us all $550 a year on average.
“I’m saving $17 a quarter, which equates to $68 per year.”
Mr McPherson also said the new calculators might have helped ahead of last week’s release of the Federal Government’s mid-year financial statement.
“The deficit has grown more than $10billion than predicted six months ago!” he said.
“These presents are my little bit to help the country.”
