A FIVE-RACE card will hail the Sapphire Coast Turf Club’s social event of the season.

The Boxing Day races stand out as an opportunity for dressing up and hitting the hillside to catch up with visitors, returning friends and family alike.

Organisers said it is one of the biggest days on the Sapphire Coast’s social calendar as a great opportunity for locals and holiday makers to catch up with friends over the holiday season.

Organisers said after a long break and some excellent preparation, the course is in phenomenal condition ahead of Friday’s races.

The five-race card will be a non-TAB event, but punters will be able to have a bit of a flutter through book-makers on the day.

For those feeling a bit more adventurous, Friday will see the return of the mechanical bull.

The novelty proved a smash hit at last year’s Boxing Day event and organisers welcomed its return as a bit of a spectacle for onlookers.

Anyone interested is invited to head along and try their hand at taming the bucking mechanical bull at the turf club on Friday.

Meanwhile, there will also be fashions on the field with plenty of prizes on offer.

There will be competitions for ladies, men and couples on the day between races, so don your best suit or favourite fascinator to be in the running.

Entry is $20 and gates open at 11.30am.

Free buses will run to and from the course on the day through a number of towns including Bega, Tathra, Tura, Merimbula, Pambula and Eden.
