Relief
It is a great relief to me, and many others in our community, that Van Ryn has been locked away.

This at least will, for the time being, allow our children to be safe, knowing this evil person is behind bars.
Thanks BDN for front page reporting and not hiding this issue.
All we want is for our kids and grandkids to be safe, and persons such as this need to be contained indefinitely.
Thanks again.

How lucky we are
After recently having two minor surgeries in Bega Hospital, both performed by Dr AJ Collins, to my surprise on Sunday night here is my surgeon on TV volunteering on what is called the Mercy Ship.
I spotted him on an ad before the show went to air and said to my family that I think that is my doctor.
We all watched, and yes it was Dr Collins.
Dr Collins and all the other volunteers on this ship perform what can only be described as humanity at its best.
These outstanding doctors are taking care of people far less fortunate than us and are receiving only smiles and gratitude as payment.
I am glad that Dr AJ Collins calls the Sapphire Coast his home.
To have surgeons such as him in our shire fills you with pride and confidence that we are safe when problems arise.

Tree fern concern
Starting January 5, the Bega Valley council will be widening the road that goes through the national park on the Towamba-Eden Road.
This road is very narrow and needs work, but it is lined on either side with native tree ferns.
I want to know if National Parks are going to remove these ferns for replanting or let council bulldoze them.
Or for that matter is council going to remove them for replanting?
I think it would be a terrible shame again, if these trees are bulldozed.
I have in the past seen what council can do to native vegetation, even if it is special.

Country cash cow?
Further to my letter a couple of weeks ago regarding local fuel prices that the BDN kindly published.
Last week I was up in Sydney.
The price of unleaded fuel was pretty much $1.22 per litre, but it was no problem at all to source it at $1.12, $1.13 per litre.
So my question is this.
Why is Woolworths using country people as a cash cow to subsidise city motorists?
Before I go any further I would like to add that the independent service stations are just as bad as they are doing exactly what Woolworths are doing and keeping the price of fuel high, but where Woolworths goes they will follow as Woolworths are the leaders.
Congratulations must go to the independent petrol station at Tathra, which is about 10c below everyone else.
Goes to show that we are getting gouged.
I urge you not to take it lying down or nothing will happen.
Send Woolworths Petrol emails - they do respond, but do nothing - complain in the store, complain when you buy petrol, send them letters, ring them or maybe do what I am going to do.
I am not going to shop with them anymore!
Luckily we have a good alternative in Bega and they will get my money in future.
Let’s stop the rip off, for that is what it is, and get a fair go for country motorists!
