Around 40 bikers sporting a variety of festive decorations rolled into Littleton Gardens on Saturday to complete the Sapphire Coast Toy Run.
Hosted by the local branch of the Ulysses Motorcycle Club, riders travelled from Bermagui to Tathra, Merimbula and Pambula before finishing up in Bega – collecting donations of Christmas toys, gifts and cash along the way.
Sapphire Coast Ulysses Club secretary Bruce Bearman said it was particularly pleasing to see so many non-members join the ride.
Also enjoyable was the fine weather that greeted riders on Saturday morning, who had been anxious after the district’s week of rain.
“It got a bit rude going into Mogareeka, but it was only a few spits that went away – it was all good,” Mr Bearman said.
The semi-regular toy runs hosted by the local Ulysses branch are to aid the Bega Hospital Auxiliary and St Vincent de Paul.
This year, Ulysses graciously came on board as a supporter of the Bega District News Christmas Toy Drive and all the toys collected on the ride are now under the BDN’s Christmas tree.
By the end of this week, everything under the tree will be distributed to the region’s disadvantaged children and families through Vinnies, the Salvation Army, Anglicare and the Bega Hospital.
The Ulysses Sapphire Coast branch thanked local businesses Repco, Autopro, Howeroll at Tathra and Mimosa Meats Butchery for their donations of raffle prizes.
Congratulations were then extended to Kuyan Smith of Narooma, who claimed the best decorated bike with his dad Tim.
The Yamaha sporting a red nose, reindeer antlers and Santa riding a wooden sleigh impressed the judge and Kuyan was presented with a unique model bike created by Dan Allen of Dustys Rustys.
