Around 80 people attended the night, having supper and dancing the night away to old-time dance music by The Two G’s.
Brogo Hall committee secretary/treasurer Tanya Pearce said the event had gone really well, with about the same amount of people there as who attended the 50th anniversary celebrations.
“Everybody was very happy with it and though it was well supported,” she said.
There was memorabilia on display, and speakers involved in the hall’s past got up to tell some funny stories.
The ball was opened by Richard Otton, and attended by such people as Bega Valley Shire Council deputy mayor Liz Seckold, as well as those who had been part of its history such as Beryl Healey whose husband was one of the current hall’s builders, and Lenna Pearce who was responsible for opening the hall again after it had been closed.
The original hall was built by mostly volunteer labour before opening in 1928, and was used for occasions such as weekly dances, playgroup, rural youth, church on Sunday, balls, and sending people off from the district.
After the hall burnt down on January 25, 1952 the insurance was not enough to cover the rebuilding costs, so volunteer help was needed to raise the funds once again.
On December 3, 1954 the new hall was opened by Brogo resident Jack Baldwin, who had been president of the hall’s committee for 20 years.
These days the hall is used for community functions, fundraisers and the dances which take place once a month.
