As parents arrived at the school they were welcomed by members of the school’s Student Representative Council who led the budding young dancers into the school hall, which had been converted to a discotheque for the night.
Drinks and snacks were provided, as was a chill out zone for those who were overheating.
The disco was organised by Dave Britten and his SRC team and was supervised by several Bega High teachers who volunteered to spend the night gyrating to modern beats while getting to know the new students.
Meanwhile the parents were escorted up to the school library and were greeted by displays of Year 7 classwork such as paintings, prints, handbags, sculptures, examples of workbooks and written work.
“We wanted the parents to see the standard of work that is achieved and expected at Bega High in Year 7,” year advisor Don Green said.
The parents were also treated to platters of freshly prepared finger food produced by the Year 8 Food Tech students under the supervision of Food Tech head teacher Maria Hay.
The Bega High library was packed with parents who listened to presentations by the school executive, year advisor and the head teachers of each faculty.
Head teacher of Welfare Mark Freedman was master of ceremonies for the night and introduced each speaker who spoke passionately about their subject and their school.
Parents took full advantage of the opportunity and asked a lot of questions.
There was time set aside at the end of the night for parents to speak one to one with each member of staff about any personal concerns.
At 8pm it was time for the teachers, parents and students to call it a night and they all agreed it was a great success.
The next transition activities at Bega High are the upcoming orientation days on December 3 and 4.
